Mechatronics

Mechatronics is the field of scientific study that examines complex systems - comprising of mechanical, electronic and software elements - which exhibit synergy and emergent behaviour.

Examined individually, the mechanical, electronic and software elements do not reveal their purpose and their meaning within the mechatronic synergy. Conceptually, mechatronics are not layers upon layers of designs from different engineering disciplines that are steganised, orthogonalised and treated as interfaced modular parts of a collaborating whole. They are a whole in concept, in design and in materialisation.

In the mechatronic whole, knowledge from different engineering disciplines is utilised, but unlike the traditionally segmented disciplines of engineering study, mechatronic systems are designed as undivided units containing interdisciplinary knowledge among three sciences.
